What was Imperial Japan's intentions for the Philippines?

The Philippines was used to stash gold garnered during WW II.

It is said that even gold from the Bank of Japan was transfered to the Philippines. The war ended unexpectedly with the atomic bombs. Were the Philippines meant to be used as advance point for the conquest of Australia and New Zealand? Or, did they mean to transfer Tokyo?

What was Imperial Japan's intentions for the Philippines?
the Philippines provided a good point to station troops to move throughout the pacific. they could launch attacks or transfer troops to where they were needed. Actually thats why it was of strategic importance to the US and Japan and thats why it was one of the first targets of invasion when the war with the US began.

The Philippines also had a strong agricultural base and some raw materials that could be used by japans war effort,

I doubt Tokyo would have ever been moved (perhaps some of the military headquarters but not the capital as a whole). But The Philippines would have made conquest of the rest of Asia including Australia and New Zealand much easier
Reply:Technically they wanted to buy the Philippines because of the heads up that Timex was sick of paying Americans lots of money for a cheap piece of crap watch and they knew that they were looking at moving their operations to the Philipines ! Just like money in the bank baby!!!! ~JK~
Reply:From what I think, expansion. Philippines was(take note WAS) a rich country back then. Rich in both natural and financial resources. Probably even richer than Japan. The Philippines was once considered the promised land of Asia(figuratively speaking). Conquering it would be a great advantage.
Reply:It was another stepping stone in aquiring the natural resources of southeast Asia. Aquiring these resouces would give them what they needed to be a superpower. If they accomplished this, todays Japan would consist of all territory in the Western Pacific. Including Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and more than likley Australia.
Reply:What they had planned for the rest of the pacific co-prosperity sphere...

Creation of a Japanese slave states.

The rape of uccupied lands..."literally"

Control of natural resources wealth %26amp; a captive work force .

Their intent was to establish power bases throughout the pacific as stepping stones to the "prizes" of NZ %26amp; Australia.

Got to have gold to do it, but no idea of where it went.
Reply:Conquest
