Why do some countries still insist on using imperial measurements?

And at the same time, using decimal currency?

Why do some countries still insist on using imperial measurements?
Imperial measurements were used throughout the British Empire which covered one third of the world. and of course included America.

It doesn't help of course that the early americans got mixed up with their measurements and because there was 16 ounces in a pound assumed there must be 16 fluid ounces in a pint when of course any person with education new it was 20! Thats why a US gallon is 20% less than an Imperial Gallon.

It was also too complicated for them to remember that 8 stone(112 lbs) was a hundred weight (cwt) so they said there were 100 lbs in a cwt so a ton (20 cwt) became 2000lbs when of course it is actually 2240lbs.

The EU has just given up on forcing the UK to go completely metric.

The drive to metrication was politically motivated . It was supposed to bring us closer to our EU neighbours and help us forget that we used to be the most powerful country in the world..

The fact it still hasn't been completed is down to the refusal of the population to accept it.

Next year it will become a criminal offence to show imperial weights ie pounds and ounces yet the EU has given up on trying to get us to give up our pints of beer.

About a year ago a major supermarket chain stopped labelling in both lbs and metric. Their trade dropped so much that they went back to showing the imperial measure after only 3 weeks.
Reply:If you would say what imperial measurements are then I could answer you.
Reply:its like some countries have differnt languages than others, they just use a different system
Reply:Just what ppl become used to most likely
Reply:because of the high cost of converting

to get a glimpse of the tip of the iceberg: how much would it cost to convert all miles per hour speed limit signs in the United States to kilometers per hour?
Reply:Too ignorant to change for the better.
Reply:dunno, but it seems really silly. imperial is far harder to learn for kids in school. you would think the world wanting to get smarter and faster at everything would simplify at least that.

metric is so-o-o-o- easy!!!

i think its only America who use Imperial now isnt it?

all of Europe and the UK, Australia, NZ use metric. Some older rural parts of Wales and Ireland still use Imperial, but that's because of paroquial reluctance to chance (no offense anyone - I AM Irish!!)

so, I'm sorry to say i think it's just the americans who use Imperial. maybe Canada?
Reply:thats basically just the States and its because it would cost way way to much all teh factorys would have to be converted and texts books would have to be changed it would be to much expencive and becuase United States are so powerful it is stull used
