Do you measure in litres, meters and kilograms
or
gallons, yards and pounds?
When you fill up at the petrol station do you pay per litre?
Is Scotland on Metric or Imperial Standard?
It's quite confusing in some parts. The whole of the UK is metric and we buy our fuel in litres rather than gallons, although a car's economy is usually worked out at miles per gallon...which also tells you that we measure our roads in miles, but most other distances are worked out using metres. In our shops we buy stuff in grams etc, though a recent EU ruling states that we are still allowed to buy them in pounds if we so wish....scales must by law show kilogram measures....good 'ere innit!
Reply:For most purposes the whole of the UK, which includes Scotland uses imperial measurement. For instance distances are measured in miles, furlongs, chains, yards, feet and inches.
Food is usually sold by weight measured in kilogrammes but pounds may sometimes be seen.
Petrol is an exception though. It is in litres.
There are no plans to convert to metric at present.
