While the case could be made for either, I have to agree with Portwine, historically, women were treated very badly in Chinese culture. Foot binding is a major example. Women in Imperial China were no better than chattel, with absolutely no rights.
Reply:I would say that historically, the Chinese culture has treated women the worst of all, if I remember correctly. But, the genital mutilation suffered in some parts of the world is very difficult to match.
