Can someone tell me what a Chinese Imperial Dog/Puppy is?

I have seen them advertised everywhere with much controversy not far behind. Are they just indeed smaller (runt) Shih Tzus and this is liken to the teacup debate? or are they another breed altogether?

Can someone tell me what a Chinese Imperial Dog/Puppy is?
It is a way for backyard breeders and puppy mills to make more money.

Shih Tzus, per AKC standards are to be between 9 and 16 lbs. When I was recently looking for another puppy to add to my family, I found that there were a lot of breeders out there that are breeding Shih Tzus that are between 4 and 8 pounds.

These are what they are referring to as Imperials. They are nothing but runts! Many of them are prone to major health issues. It is unconscionable!

I breed Shih Tzus and would never, ever, intentionally breed for puppies that are not within AKC standards.

Reply:Yes, I know a breeder of these dogs and they are indeed smaller or teacup Shih Tzus. There is MUCH controversy among breeders saying they are breeding smaller variations to smaller ones to reduce the size. I have seen them and they are very cute to say the least but as a Vet. Tech of 30 years I also see health problems in them as well....mainly, very small nasal passages, breathng problems etc....
Reply:From the info I have seen on them, it is just another fancy name for teacup.
