What is the metric or imperial equivalent of American 'cup' measurements?

Lots of American recipes call for cup measurements. We don't use them in the UK, only metric and imperial. Can anyone tell me what the weigh equivalent is?

The only cup measurements in the UK are for bras!

What is the metric or imperial equivalent of American 'cup' measurements?
A cup is eight ounces in imperial, or 250ml.
Reply:1 Cup = 16 Tablespoons = 48 Teaspoons (US)

1 Cup = 240 ml = 24 cl = 2.4 dl (US to metric)

(If you don't want to be too accurate)
