For you, who has the greatest civilization during the middle ages of europe/imperial period of china?
European civilisation during the Middle Ages gave us some of the world's most beautiful buildings, the incredible cathedrals like Canterbury, Notre Dame, and Saint Marks in Venice, which are the glory of Europe with their incredibly beautiful and complex stonework, soaring arches, and fantastic stained glass windows. Also the mighty and impressive castles, many of which are still standing.





The medieval era also produced wonderful music, which is still being sung in our churches, and wonderful literature like Dante's Divine Comedy, Bocccacio's Decameron and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. There was marvellous art work, like the exquisite illuminated manuscripts that were created by monks and nuns. And there were wonderful artists like Giotto,Duccio, Simone Martini, Ambrogio Lorenzetti, Jan Van Eyck, Fra Angelico and the Limbourg Brothers





There were scientific discoveries as well, spectacles were invented in the 13th century for example, and the mechanical clock. and the invention of the printing press in the 15th century was a boon to mankind, leading to a much wider distribution of literature, even though it meant that the exquisite hand-written manuscripts would no longer be produced.





I would not say that European civilisation was necessarily greater than Chinese civilisation at this time, but European civilisation is the one I am more familiar with. And the colourful vibrancy of medieval life is a subject of great fascination to me.
